Truffle speciation & import
Linnaeus has introduced a panel of DNA tests that allow the rapid detection of specific truffle species.
This panel uses new, highly sensitive real-time PCR methods developed here at Linnaeus.
These tests can be used to:
- Verify root infections with the desired species
- Detect the presence of undesired species (such as Tuber brumale in a Périgord plantation)
- Certify the truffles themselves as true-to-type
Species able to be detected include:
- Périgord black truffle (Tuber melanosporum)
- Winter truffle (Tuber brumale)
- Bianchetto (Tuber borchii)
- Italian white truffle (Tuber magnatum)
- Burgundy truffle (Tuber aestivum / Tuber uncinatum)
- Other truffle species (Tuber indicum, Tuber maculatum)
We are a registered containment facility and are the only laboratory registered for testing imported truffles into New Zealand.
